Will Neuville’s title defense finally ignite?

Thierry Neuville’s World Rally Championship season hangs in the balance.

Throwing everything he was worth in achieving a lifetime quest in 2024, it’s deceptively difficult to find the drive to do it all over again.

Five rounds in, Neuville’s title defense has been far from bad, but it’s not been electric either. Fewer stage wins than new Hyundai team-mate Adrien Fourmaux, and even Takamoto Katsuta, is atypical for the Belgian.

Is Neuville lacking that half a percent? When will his season ignite?

Rally Italy Sardinia could be the place. Neuville has won in Sardinia thrice before, while Hyundai has taken the event on seven of the last nine occasions. And with a starting position of fifth, the world champion has a greater theoretical shot than his main rivals.

But when have rallies ever been won in theory? Join Colin Clark and David Evans on this week’s SPIN, The Rally Pod as they preview round six of the WRC, assessing Hyundai and Neuville’s need to win, why Sébastien Ogier is loving his driving and the civil war threatening to brew at M-Sport Ford.
