Ubisoft has given the go-ahead for the next The Crew game, according to Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson.

It's expected that The Crew will return to its vast open-world formula instead of continuing with the design used most recently in The Crew Motorfest, which was centred around a more limited, highly detailed environment.

The well-established and reputable industry insider, Tom Henderson, has stated that "the next The Crew game has been greenlit at Ubisoft."

Henderson, who has a solid track record of providing credible Ubisoft scoops, later suggested that the new project will see The Crew return to its roots by bringing back an extensive open-world experience rather than being a sequel to The Crew Motorfest.

Other than what Henderson has already shared, additional details about the next The Crew game remain limited. Regardless, the little information we do have will be more than enough to make fans of the franchise excited for what lies ahead.

The first two entries of The Crew series, released in 2014 and 2018, respectively, took place in smaller versions of the United States. However, the third installment signaled a major shift in direction, opting for a more condensed open-world environment based on an island in Hawaii.

As a result, The Crew Motorfest received mixed reviews, with some players feeling as if it lacked the depth and freedom of previous titles. While many still enjoyed its arcade-like feel and impressive graphics, those who have been part of the game's journey from the beginning will no doubt feel relieved that Ubisoft has seemingly decided to revert to what made the series so popular in the first place.

That's all we know at the moment, but stay tuned to racinggames.gg: the best place for The Crew coverage.
